ABSTRACT

The frequent emergence of SARS-CoV-2 variants increased viral transmissibility and reduced protection afforded by vaccines. The rapid, multichannel, and intelligent screening of variants is critical to minimizing community transmissions. DNA molecular logic gates have attracted wide attention in recent years due to the powerful information processing capabilities and molecular data biocomputing functions. In this work, some molecular switches (MSs) were connected with each other to implement arbitrary binary functions by emulating the threshold switching of MOS transistors and the decision tree model. Using specific sequences of different SARS-CoV-2 variants as inputs, the MSs net was used to build several molecular biocomputing circuits, including NOT, AND, OR, INHIBIT, XOR, half adder, half subtractor, full adder, and full subtractor. Four fluorophores (FAM, Cy3, ROX, and Cy5) were employed in the logic systems to realize the multichannel monitoring of the logic operation results. The logic response is fast and can be finished with 10 min, which facilitates the rapid wide-population screening for SARS-CoV-2 variants. Importantly, the logic results can be directly observed by the naked eye under a portable UV lamp, thus providing a simple and intelligent method to enable high-frequency point-of-care diagnostics, particularly in low-resource communities.

ABSTRACT

Covid-19 has spread quickly throughout China and the entire world. According to the World Health Organization, there is a public health emergency that is of global significance (WHO). Controlling the drug supply is essential since this hazardous pandemic has seriously jeopardized global public security. This essay starts by looking at the current condition of COVID-19, analyzes the requirements for required drug patent licensing in different countries, points out the problems with mandatory drug patent licensing in China, and finally offers practical suggestions for forced pharma patent licensing. China and the rest of the world have experienced rapid Covid-19 spread. There is an international public health emergency, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). The majority of China's pharmaceutical companies were founded relatively recently, and they are currently producing copycat medications. The government needs to properly understand the value of the compulsory patent licensing system and offer the necessary support to ensure a successful rollout. The government can implement specific policies, add a special fund for drug development, offer loans to pharmaceutical companies, hire qualified staff for drug research and development, and generally strengthen China's pharmaceutical industry. Pharmaceutical companies are the manufacturers of drugs under the obligatory patent licensing system. Pharmaceutical companies should develop their overall strength, increase their ability to produce drugs, and have enough resources to meet social requirements and guarantee public health and safety. To increase the rate of development, it is vital to promote international collaboration and actively introduce foreign innovative systems and industrial facilities.

ABSTRACT

This study aims to explore the changes of Chinese coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) policy topics in the eclipse, outbreak, and convalescent stage of COVID-19 based on 4982 textual policies. By using the co-occurrence clustering network method, we find that the strict prevention and control of the epidemic is the only topic of policies in the eclipse stage. In the outbreak stage, strict epidemic prevention and control is still the most important policy topic. The policies of resuming work of “essential”enterprises and stabilizing market prices are important support and guarantee for fighting against COVID-19. In the convalescent stage, as the prevention and control of COVID-19 has become regular, promoting and ensuring the resumption of work in all sectors of society is the most important topic of the policies. Moreover, the success of Wuhan City’s fight against COVID-19 reflects China’s governance characteristics of “concentrating power to do a major event”. Finally, the possible improvements for Chinese COVID-19 policies are discussed, which can provide practical suggestions for government departments on how to effectively respond to public health emergencies.

ABSTRACT

The continuous increase of carbon emissions is a serious challenge all over the world, and many countries are striving to solve this problem. Since 2020, a widespread lockdown in the country to prevent the spread of COVID-19 escalated, severely restricting the movement of people and unnecessary economic activities, which unexpectedly reduced carbon emissions. This paper aims to analyze the carbon emissions data of 30 provinces in the 2020 and provide references for reducing emissions with epidemic lockdown measures. Based on the method of time series visualization, we transform the time series data into complex networks to find out the hidden information in these data. We found that the lockdown would bring about a short-term decrease in carbon emissions, and most provinces have a short time point of impact, which is closely related to the level of economic development and industrial structure. The current results provide some insights into the evolution of carbon emissions under COVID-19 blockade measures and valuable insights into energy conservation and response to the energy crisis in the post-epidemic era.

ABSTRACT

Considering the large-scale outbreak of the coronavirus, it is essential to develop a versatile sensing system for different coronaviruses diagnostics, such as COVID-19, severe acute respiratory syndrome-related coronavirus (SARS-CoV), and bat SARS-like coronavirus (Bat-SL-CoVZC45). In this work, a tetrahedron-based constitutional dynamic network was built as the sensing platform for coronavirus detection. Four different DNA probes were used to construct the tetrahedron structure. DNAzyme and the fluorophore modified substrate strand were used to generate different fluorescence signals, which can be used to distinguish different coronaviruses. The coronavirus biosensor shows a high sensitivity for COVID-19, Bat-SL-CoVZC45, and SARS-CoV detection, with detection limits of 2.5, 3.1, and 2.9 fM, respectively. Also, the platform is robust, and the possible interference from clinical samples was negligible. Using different coronaviruses as inputs, we have fabricated several concatenated logic gates, such as "AND-OR", "INHIBIT-AND", "AND-AND-AND", and "AND-INHIBIT". Importantly, our logic system can also be used to identify SARS-CoV-2 Delta and Lambda variants in the logic operations. Due to the unique advantages of high sensitivity and selectivity, multiple logic biocomputing capabilities, and multireadout mode, this flexible sensing system provides a versatile sensing strategy for intelligent diagnostics of different coronaviruses with low false-negative rates.

ABSTRACT

Previous studies have confirmed that poor living conditions can lead to a wide range of health problems. However, in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, vulnerable groups in unstable housing are more susceptible to disease. This study aims to systematically examine the housing and health problems of vulnerable groups using a bibliometric approach to explore how housing causes health problems, types of health illnesses, and coping strategies. It is found that the poor housing mechanism, persistent inequalities, and poor housing environments have a significant impact on the health of vulnerable groups. Therefore, the government must make concerted efforts across all sectors to ensure that the housing and health care needs of vulnerable groups are improved, and that housing security standards and related policies are improved; targeted safety plans are formulated with community as the carrier, taking into account the characteristics of vulnerable groups; and new information technology is widely used to provide medical convenience for vulnerable groups. It is hoped that the research in this paper can arouse social attention to the health of vulnerable groups and improve their health from the perspective of housing, so as to point out the direction for solving the housing health problems of vulnerable groups in the future.

ABSTRACT

Two fragments of the COVID-19 genome (specific and homologous) were used as two inputs to construct an AND logic gate for COVID-19 detection based on exonuclease III and DNAzyme. The detection sensitivity of the assay can reach fM levels. Satisfactory recovery values were obtained in real sample analysis.

ABSTRACT

This article introduces safety management strategies of nasopharyngeal specimen collection from suspected cases of coronavirus disease 2019 in a tertiary designated hospital. The key points include establishing a special sampling room, strict sterilization of the entire environment, training of professional nurses, enhancement of personal protection, standardization of methods and processes for swab collection, and a timely and safety sample submission. More than 11,000 nasopharyngeal specimens were collected by eight nurses, with an average of 1,375 specimen swab collections each nurse, and no one was infected.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To introduce the emergency management of nursing human resources and supplies of a large general hospital when facing the outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19). METHOD: The Nursing Department of the hospital fully executed its functional authority to establish a three-level echelon of sustainable support, allocate human recourses dynamically, organize pre-service training, supervise the key working steps, formulate positive incentive methods, and deploy medical supplies scientifically. RESULT: By taking these strategies, the hospital effectively improved the coping capacity of the nursing team and played a positive role in the prevention and treatment of COVID-19. CONCLUSION: The emergency management of nursing human resources and material resources for COVID-19 of the hospital is successful. But several deficiencies were identified as well, which indicated that the hospital needs to establish an efficient emergency management system, and pay attention to the practice of nursing emergency plans to enhance coping capacities in public health emergencies.
